I had a strange feeling about the guys who showed up to do the job, since they seemed a little young and unprofessional, but they were friendly, so I let it slide.

Stanley Steamer is a scam. All they do is dump a bunch of hot water on your carpet which causes the dirt to become mud and sink to the bottom. Your carpet only appears cleaner. Those stains will come up again and you'll be back in the same place.
