Factorio nuclear reactor setup

So for 1TW nuclear power is obviously the way to go. With neighborhood bonuses, A perfect square would be the most efficient. A 71×71 setup would work, but I doubt the heat pipes can be extended far enough to dissipate all the generated heat (I'm running the latest Factorio version, currently 0.16.13, which includes the heat pipe fix from 0.15 ...

Factorio nuclear reactor setup. Ideal in the sense that it is infinitely scalable (provided you have the long lake) by being repeatedly tiled, in a 2xN setup. This one is not exactly perfect, but it works very well. Basically, it is half of a 2x4 reactor line, with the reactors in a 2x2 square. Simply rotate the BP 180 degrees and plop it down again to create the 2x4.

The main advantage is, that heating 95°C water back to steam requires much less energy compared to heating the 25°C water you get from the lake. 4. The nuclear reactor. All the previous changes are usable also with the regular coal boilers and provide more efficient and powerful way to use the heating power. The nuclear reactor is just a more ...

Mock that up by about 5 (rounded up). Making a proper nuclear setup isn't as easy or straight forward as your early game coal power. I recommend having a look at the factorio cheat sheet. Also you don't need to ring your reactors with heatpipes.

For a 160MW reactor the reactor, heat pipes and heat exchangers tend to provide enough thermal mass to buffer an entire fuel cycle. An entire fuel cycle for a 160MW reactor setup creates 32GJ of heat, you have about 42GJ of heat storage available in the reactors+pipes+heat exchangers which ...14 reactors = 14 * 40 = 560MW. 16 neighbors = 16 * 80 = 1280MW. Last week I accidentally ran out of nuclear fuel cells (its a long story). It was such a pain going to manually reload 70+ reactors that I decided it was time to update my fuel loading blueprint to include auto-start. Basic idea: count fuel loaded and unloaded. The scenario is 2xN vs. M * 2x2. The shorter the reactor the bigger the loss in efficiency. Below 2x2 the loss is catastrophic. At the 2x2 stage it still is big and it always is there no matter how many 2x2 reactors you build. You are throwing away 160MW for every quad reactor you build. mrvn.

The heat can be used in a heat exchanger to produce steam which can be used to generate power. Unlike other forms of power generation, it is load-independent – each fuel cell will always be used completely in 200 seconds, regardless of load or the temperature of the reactor. To prevent wasting fuel, excess power can be ...Previously, you energy usage (hence the amount of heat being pull out of your reactor) was lower so your entire nuclear setup buffered that extra heat until it reached 1000 degree (at which point it magically disappeared instead of exploding radioactive fallout all over your base). No need for pumps for water at all. Then, you can setup circuit conditions to stop loading nuclear fuel and use up the steam. By design, it looks like the reactor and heat pipe does cool down from their operating temperature of 500C, so when you load another fuel, there is no lose to start up cost. Heat is not lost cause the Factorio universe is magical.Every reactor touching another gets 100% more production for each reactor it is touching. 1 reactor on its own is 40 mw, two reactors right next to eachother produces 80 mw each, for a total of 160. The rest of the design is just a matter of pushing enough steam around to actually get that much power., Due to the complexity and unpredictability of the Factorio fluid system, the circuit regulation system is not 100% perfect if the demand on the reactor rapidly changes from sustained low load (0–500 MW) to sustained high load (1.2–1.4 GW). Most senders are storage devices, and broadcast their information onto a specific channel, based on the item or liquid the storage device contains., This way the reactor control unit knows how many turbine blocks there are. Reactor row control. Reactor row control. The reactor row control is also quite simple. The inserter "1" is set up to insert a single nuclear fuel cell into the reactor whenever the inserter "2" removes an empty fuel cell. My aim is..., One ingredient requires bigger setup than nuclear fuel. Another ingredient requires U-235 or spent nuclear fuel (small chance). Fusion requires input power to run - consumes 500 MW to generate 2 GW, which is difficult to jumpstart without nuclear. I also had an instance where a set of fusion reactors somehow spiraled into blackout., A single centrifuge produces enough U235 to consistently power one reactor (it takes an expected time of 1714 seconds to produce 1 U235, but that U235 produces 2000 seconds worth of nuclear fuel cells). Kovarex is useful for nukes, but using it for power is overkill, since a single Koverex centrifuge produces enough U235 for 33 reactors. Reply., It's not tileable, and it's not 'smart' (nuke fuel is cheap anyway once kovarex is setup). I use robots for fuel, but trivial to convert to belts. Of course, you'd get more neighbour bonus with e.g. 2x4, but the difference is not that big (120 vs 140 MW per reactor) and a smaller setup causes less headaches to pipe water and steam around., Factorio added nuclear power in version 0.15 and completely changed the overall strategy for the game. So long as you use less than 481.4 MW of power per 4 reactor set-ups then you still build up excess steam., Infinitely Tileable Nuclear Reactor Design. I came up with this reactor design after looking at the heat exchanger and turbine requirements of a nuclear reactor as the number of reactors increased. For a 2xN reactor (the most efficient one in vanilla), the heat exchanger count maxes out at 16 per reactor and the turbine count is 27 per reactor., The whole nuclear mechanics are extremely satisfying. In this setup however, tanks buffer that unused fuel (in the form of steam) until the factory needs it. The reactors are wired to only burn more fuel when the steam gets low. This avoids wasting the expensive fuel cells., I have some trouble with my nuclear setup. I've built a 4 reactor setup, checked the ratios here on the wiki and on YouTube 4 reactors, 48 heat exchangers, 83 turbines, 6 water pumps.
