Access to Biesanz beach was a plus with a very nice trail through the property. Lots of monkeys around (they will come close at the pool and dining area ) and I got woken up by howlers which was an experience in itself. Overall, the resort is nice and probably best for families but not a quant, romantic experience. Yes, Playa Biesanz would be a great option. Last time we were there a vendor was renting snorkel gear but you could easily bring your own as well. It was better for snorkeling on a mid-or-low tide if I remember right because you have better access to the rocks/coral on the left/south edge of the beach. Despite the beach vendors, what makes Biesanz Beach a great day trip is its peaceful ambiance. The crescent-shaped cove is wrapped by a lush jungle, giving the beach a private, intimate feel. The white sand beach meets the calm turquoise water, ideal for swimming or floating in the water. The hike to the beach is rocky, but if you are a regular flip flopper and take care, it is doable in sandals/flops. It is true you will be offered chairs/umbrella, and there is a makeshift bar serving drinks and light food seasonally.
